Switching to a cold-climate heat pump can come with thousands of dollars in rebates. HVAC Hudson Inc. is a NYS Clean Heat participating contractor enrolled with Central Hudson, NYSEG and National Grid, the three electric utilities that serve Hudson and Columbia County. We figure out which rebate your project qualifies for, design the system to meet the program rules, and submit the application for you.
Updated November 2026. Rebate amounts and rules change, so we confirm the current rebate with every quote.
How NYS Clean Heat Rebates Work
NYS Clean Heat is New York’s statewide heat pump rebate program, run through your electric utility. In 2026 it covers homes with one to four units. The basics:
- Use a participating contractor. Only a NYS Clean Heat participating contractor can install the system and submit the rebate. You can confirm we’re enrolled on the NYS Clean Heat contractor finder.
- Use qualifying cold-climate equipment. Each heat pump must be on the NEEP cold-climate product list. Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat systems we install are chosen with this in mind.
- Heat the whole home. Air-source rebates are for systems sized to meet your home’s full heating load at design conditions, based on a Manual J load calculation. Systems that only heat part of a home generally don’t qualify, and oversized systems can be flagged for review.
- Existing homes. Air-source rebates are for retrofits; new construction is not eligible.
What Raises Your Rebate
- Removing your old system. Rebates are higher when you decommission your old oil, propane or gas heating system and make the heat pump your home’s heat source.
- Weatherization. Some utilities pay more when the heat pump is combined with qualified insulation and air sealing work.
- Home size and system size. Larger homes and larger whole-home systems generally qualify for larger rebates.
Central Hudson Heat Pump Rebates
For single-family homes over 1,000 square feet, Central Hudson’s website currently lists air-source heat pump rebates of $4,000 when you keep your existing heating system, $7,000 when you remove your oil tank or previous fossil fuel heating source, and up to $12,000 when you also complete qualified weatherization work. Smaller homes and apartments have lower amounts. Projects that replace an existing full-load heat pump are not eligible. See the details on Central Hudson’s heat pump page.
NYSEG and National Grid Heat Pump Rebates
NYSEG and National Grid customers get rebates through the same NYS Clean Heat program, with amounts set by each utility based on the project category and system size. We’re enrolled with both and will calculate your exact rebate as part of your quote.
Which Utility Do I Have?
Check the company name on your electric bill. Different parts of Hudson and Columbia County are served by Central Hudson, NYSEG and National Grid, and your rebate is based on your electric utility.
Is There Still a Federal Tax Credit?
No, not for new installations. The federal 25C tax credit for heat pumps ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025, so heat pumps installed in 2026 don’t qualify. If your system was installed in 2025, you may still be able to claim it on your 2025 tax return. Check with your tax preparer.
Other Ways to Save
- Low-interest financing. NYSERDA offers heat pump financing, including the On-Bill Recovery Loan and the Smart Energy Loan. See NYS Clean Heat financing options.
- Income-eligible programs. Households that meet income guidelines may qualify for free or reduced-cost upgrades through NYSERDA’s EmPower+ program.
How We Handle Your Rebate
- Free in-home estimate. We look at your home, your current heating system and your electric utility.
- Manual J load calculation. We size your system to cover 100% to 120% of your home’s heating load, which is what the program requires.
- Quote with your rebate. Your written quote shows the equipment, the price and the rebate your project should qualify for.
- Installation and paperwork. We install your ductless mini split or Mitsubishi ducted heat pump and submit the NYS Clean Heat application for you.
